How to Make a Vision Board That Works: Abundance in Numbers, Not Just Pictures

On Day 2 of every WISHualization workshop, people make a wish board: a vision board of the things that matter most to them. It is one of my favourite hours of the three days, because a room full of quiet adults suddenly becomes a room full of children with scissors and glue.
But a vision board on its own can sit on a wall for years and change nothing. This article answers the questions people ask about vision boards, abundance and money, and shows you how to make a board that works.
What is a vision board?
A vision board is a page or a board of pictures and words that show what you want your life to look like. It keeps your goals in front of your eyes, so that you see them every day instead of only on New Year's Day.
Why do most vision boards not work?
- They show things, not actions. A car, a house, a beach. Things on their own are flat.
- They are vague. "A big house" gives your mind nothing to hold. Which house? Where? By when?
- They keep changing. New pictures every week mean no picture ever settles in your mind.
- They are seen once and forgotten, or posted online and judged by everyone.
- They have no path. A picture of the result, with no picture of the steps.
How do I make a vision board that works?
- Ask yourself what you really want. Write your bucket list fast, without judging: everything you want to do, see, have, give and become.
- Sort it into six areas: you, family, financial, business or career, society, and your whole life. Put a star next to the one wish in each area that matters most.
- Wish for actions, not things. Instead of "a plane, a holiday and a house", picture the moment: flying from your own home to the holiday in your own plane, with the person you love beside you.
- Add numbers and dates. The amount, the year, your age then.
- Lock the colours. Choose the colour of the house, the car, the dress, and keep them.
- Add people who are living now. Family, friends, a role model: who is in the picture with you?
- Keep it private. Share your practice and your progress, but keep the wish itself to yourself until it is fulfilled.
- See it twice a day. Once on waking and once before you sleep.

What should I put on a vision board for money and abundance?
Numbers. அளக்க முடியாதது, அடைய முடியாது: what cannot be measured cannot be reached. Write your money goals the way you would write a cricket score, exactly:
| I wish to have… | Exactly |
|---|---|
| A bank balance of | The amount, and the year |
| A house | The city, the size, the colour of the gate |
| Savings every month | The amount, from which month |
| A business turnover of | The amount, the year, the number of employees |
And turn every money fear into a money wish. Not "I don't want to be in debt", but "I want to repay all my loans by March 2028 and save ₹10,000 every month."
Can a vision board make me financially independent?
No, and I won't pretend it can. A vision board keeps your number in front of you. Financial independence is built by what you do with your money every month. On Day 3 of the workshop we use a simple guide I call 6-Pack Wealth: split every month's income into six packs.
| Pack | Share of income |
|---|---|
| Living expenses | 55% |
| Savings | 15% |
| Freedom and play | 10% |
| Do not touch | 10% |
| Learning | 5% |
| Donate | 5% |

It is a guide to adapt to your own situation, not financial advice. And one warning I give every batch: உடனடி பெரிய லாபம் என்று உலகில் எதுவும் இல்லை. There is no such thing as a big, instant profit. Invest in the right things, and don't trust big returns.
Is abundance attraction the same as the law of attraction?
I agree with the books on the law of attraction. My work starts where they stop. If you believe in the law of attraction, believe in action. Abundance is attracted by a clear picture, a steady practice and a generous hand.
In the workshop we call it HOPE: Have Only Positive Energy. Have faith in your dream, own your values, practise it every day, and energise your trust with small wins and good company.

Those who are patient rule the earth; those who give rule over crores. If you want to become a billionaire, go and serve a billion people.
Vision board or a WISHualization scene: which do I need?
Both. Your vision board is the map of all your wishes. Your scene is one wish, lived with every sense: what you see, hear, smell, taste and feel in the moment it comes true. The board reminds you what you want; the scene makes you believe it. Read how to build the scene in Visualization of the future.
If you would like to make your wish board with your batch, and keep it alive for a year, see the programme and the upcoming workshops.
Questions people also ask
Where should I keep my vision board?
Somewhere you see it every morning and every night, but where others don't comment on it: a bedroom wall, the inside of a cupboard door, or a private board in an app.
Should I share my vision board?
Share your practice and your progress, not the wish. Negative comments can distract you, so keep the wish itself private until it is fulfilled.
How often should I update my vision board?
Every 90 days, when you review your goals. Changing it every week means no picture ever settles in your mind.
Is a digital vision board as good as a paper one?
Yes, if you see it every day. Paper has one advantage: making it with your own hands fixes the pictures in your memory.
What should I not put on a vision board?
Anything you don't want, pictures of other people's lives without you in them, and things with no action attached.
